Road Trip

The Man: “Hey, it looks like we have 5 days off together over Thanksgiving. Want to go on a road trip down South? We can hit some of the breweries you’ve been mentioning in Asheville.” Me: No response, as I was already packing.   We had so much beer in the trunk by the end, I was getting paranoid about someone rear-ending us. And a huge shout out to the Canada Customs guy who understood that it was homework….yeah, that’s it, homework.

Beer Fridge

I accompanied my beloved to Princess Auto last weekend, and saw a half-fridge (4.4 cu.ft.) on sale for a price even I could afford. “I should get me one of these,” I thought as I opened the door and thought about all the beer I could take out of the fridges in both of my current homes, leaving room for food. I walked away without buying, and we headed off to Stratford to do some work on and in the house. A few days later, I went to the Hamilton store, to find out that it’s scratch and dent surplus …

Beer Advent Calendar 2014

I finished my advent calendar a little late. Ok, a lot late. Between one thing (illness) and another (food coma courtesy of That Damned Canasian), it went a bit (a long bit) past the 25th. And then I forgot that a blog draft does not equal a blog post. Belatedly, here is what was in my advent calendar, in numerical order: 1. Mikkeller k:rlek: check this post. 2. The red wine added gave it an interesting …

Day 91, Beer Club and Beer Advent Calendar Day 2

The stars aligned to give me many beer-y things today. Brewery day I spent the morning in the brewery alternating between bottling and keg-cleaning until some of the boys were done with the mash. The project today was to make some of Alan Brown’s strong Scotch ale, Highland Gale Highland Ale, that won him this year’s Iron Brewer award. Once the first mash was done, it was distributed to the kettles in the pilot system, and a second mash started. We had the chance to take home some of the copious quantities of extra wort, but alas, my extra carboy was …

Day 90 and Beer Advent Calendar Day 1

It was supposed to be Ingredients class first thing today, but this happened: Which meant that instead of Ingredients, Comm, Math and then work, I got to meet a very nice tow truck driver, take the train in to Toronto, meet my beloved and go shopping for this: I pick it up on Saturday. I am now more of a broke student than I was before, but at least this one won’t blow upon the Garden City Skyway. Note: It didn’t so much blow up, as make an increasingly loud noise, like someone was shaking a spray paint can near …
