Day 20

Monday was the day of the first big test, all about hops in Ingredients class. If I said I was panicking a bit would be an understatement. I jammed in whatever studying I could during the weekend, whenever I wasn't working. Between work and studying, I had all of four hours all weekend to hang out with Keith. Not enough! I am re-thinking my 'take whatever work I can” ethic. Work is important so I don't dip into my RSP's too much, but I'd rather do that than have no time for relationships or school work. Days 6 & 7

Tired. So tired. Had a great weekend with my beloved, but left driving back too late and couldn’t sleep. Plus Mondays and Tuesdays are 8:30 classes. I will not complain about 2 early classes out of 5 possible days….I won’t. I really wanted to though. First up was Brewing Ingredients with Kevin Somerville, one of the partners at the Oast House. After brief introductions all around, he spent the class looking at hops. There was a lot of information on those PowerPoint slides that I’m going to have to go back and review as I’m afraid I zoned out a few times …

Day 3 and an unofficial field trip

Friday was another light day as the Sensory Evaluation class was cancelled, leaving us with only Intro to Brewing for the day. Jon Downing teaches this class, and spent the time going over some basics of history and the process. Most of this had been covered in the Prud’homme courses I had taken, but a refresher is never a bad thing. He then went over some of the safety hazards that could be found in brewery and gave us a tour of the teaching brewery building.  We all scattered at the end of class, and headed off to our weekends. …
