Day 38

Intro to brewing started the day, and we had two guest lecturers from Lallemand Yeasts. I find the little creatures fascinating. Alas, I could only stay for the first, more clinical, presentation as I had to dash to an appointment. I hope that both presentations will be uploaded to Blackboard so I can at least read what I missed. And then on to our first mid-term in Sensory Evaluation. I am trying to stay calm and remember that the desired outcome of going back to school is learning, not marks, but I find myself slipping every once in a while …

Day 17

I had every intention of going to the brewery early to help out before my classes; alas, someone forgot to set her alarm the night before. So I showed up to school bright and early at 11-ish, just in time for Intro to Brewing at 11:30. We had Michael Pugh come in from EcoLab to give us a presentation on the chemicals used in the brewery and appropriate safety procedures for transporting and using them. Pretty straight-forward if you have any common sense at all. There was a short online true/false test after that most of us did right after …
